Mildred Myrtle Zech
Mildred Myrtle Zech, age 85, of Howard Lake, passed away Sept. 25, 2001, at the North Ridge Care Center, Minneapolis.
Mildred was born Dec. 27, 1915 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Frederick and Marie (Lunow) Venske.
She was baptized Jan. 27, 1916, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minneapolis by the Rev. E. G. Nachtsheim and confirmed in her faith April l, l928 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
She was united in marriage to Luther Zech Sept. 5, 1942, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buffalo, by the Rev. Berwald. This union was blessed with the births of four children.
Mildred was an avid reader and liked to keep up with current events. She attended business college, and at the time of her retirement, was employed as secretary to the superintendent of Howard Lake High School.
She was pleased to serve on the Centennial Book Committee, researching the history of Howard Lake for the publishing of the book "100 Years of the Good Life."
As a member of St. James Church, she had served on the Evangelism Board and as a Sunday School teacher.
Mildred was called to her eternal rest at the age of 85 years, eight months, and 29 days, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Luther; son, Andrew; parents, Frederick and Marie Venske; and sister, Evelyn.
She is survived by her daughters, Julia and husband Charles Pieper of Las Cruces, N.M., Audrey Zech of St. Paul; son, John Zech and wife Sydney of West St. Paul; three brothers, Herbert Venske and wife Lucille of Howard Lake, Homer Venske and wife Frances of Las Vegas, Nev., Ralph Venske and wife Carol of Mohave Valley, Ariz.; sister, Ruth and husband Joseph Crass of Brooklyn Center; sister-in-law, Elaine Workman; brother-in-law, George Zech; nieces, nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Sept. 28, 2001, at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva and the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating.
The organist was Nancy Butterfass.
Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Zech, Rick Workman, Rob Workman, David Cross, Dan Workman, Dr. Constantine Rigas, and Dave Workman.
Mildred's father, Frederick Venske was organist at St. James Church. She had requested that memorials be made to the St. James Church Organ Fund.
Arrangements were made by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
