Arvin W. Birkholz
Arvin W."A.B." Birkholz, age 68, of Winsted, and formerly of Lester Prairie, entered his eternal rest Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Arvin Birkholz was born the son of Herbert and Emma (Seefeldt) Birkholz July 22, 1934, in Lester Prairie.
He was baptized July 29, 1934, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. E. H. Stahlke. Arvin was also confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. R. A. Ritz March 21, 1948.
Upon Arvin's graduation from Lester Prairie High School, he attended Concordia College in St. Paul and also Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
Arvin was united in marriage to Janelle (Perbix) at St. Paul's Ev. Reformed Church in rural Hamburg by the Rev. O. J. Vriesen.
Arvin lived his entire life in Lester Prairie until one-and-a-half years ago when he and Janelle sold their home in Lester Prairie and purchased a townhouse in Winsted.
In the past two years, Arvin spent many hours building their lake home in Emily, Minn.
Arvin was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie where he served as vice-president, president, and elder, and was also a member of the building committee.
In the Lester Prairie community, Arvin was a member of the American Legion Post, the Lester Prairie Lions Club, the Jaycees and the Lester Prairie Business Association.
He owned and operated H.A. Birkholz Construction, Inc., which was a family business that began in 1943.
For enjoyment, Arvin loved feeding and observing birds and wildlife, gardening, trapshooting, playing pool, reading, hunting, fishing, traveling, and had a great love for his dog, Cody.
Arvin took great pride and enjoyed their lake home which he recently completed. Arvin will also always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
Arvin entered his eternal rest at the age of 68 years and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cordella Birkholz; and brother, Clarence Birkholz.
He is survived by his wife, Janelle Birkholz of Winsted; children, Barry (Barb) Birkholz of Winsted and Tara (Bruce) Schneewind of Lester Prairie; sisters-in-laws, RaNaye (LeRoy) Miller of Victoria and Ornelle (Robert) Jorgensen of LaCrosse, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Arvin were Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. The Rev. Grant Bode and the Rev. Randell Tonn officiated the service.
Jane Holasek provided organ music and Patty Dietel was soloist, singing "In the Garden." The congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."
Serving as casketbearers were Ivan Arnold, Ruben Grimm, Jerry Honebrink, Jerry Schneewind, Mitchell Miller, and Brook Miller.
Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was Friday evening, Aug. 16 at the church.
Arrangements were made by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
