Emily E. Borrell
Emily E. Borrell, age 100, of Waverly, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Delano Health Care Center in Delano.
She was born Dec. 18, 1901, in Albion Township to Fred and Elizabeth (Raiche) Coyea.
Emily made her career as a school teacher. She was known professionally as Mrs. Borrell, and taught school in Albion Township from 1921 to 1923, District 47 (Hance School) from 1923 to 1925; Section 8, Woodland Township from 1944 to 1946; District 74 (Woodland township) from 1954 to 1956; Holy Angels in Minneapolis from 1956 to 1957; and St. Mary's in Waverly from 1957 to 1969.
She also substituted in the Howard Lake and Delano Public Schools after retiring in 1969.
Emily married Joseph L. Borrell at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Maple Lake Sept. 29, 1925. They made their home southwest of Waverly for the next 57 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; daughter, Luella Jandro; daughter-in-law, Marie Borrell; and granddaughter, Nanette Blanchette.
Emily is survived by her five sons, Donald and Marcella Borrell, Gerald and Therese Borrell, Clayton and Gerry Borrell, Marion and Sherry Borrell, Daniel and Mary Jane Borrell; 25 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, son-in-law; John and Rita Jandro; sisters-in-law Mary Moodie and Dorothy Borrell.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, May 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly.
Visitation was Sunday evening and Monday at the church.
Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Waverly.
The Rev. Robert Wiley celebrated the prayer service, with the Rev. Martin Schallbetter celebrating the Mass.
Therese Borrell and the St. Mary's Funeral Choir provided the music.
Arrangements were made by the Iten Funeral Home, Delano.
