Ione Dorothy Chaffins
Ione Dorothy Chaffins, age 77, of Howard Lake, was welcomed into the loving arms of God Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, after a lengthy battle with various health problems.
She was born April 8, 1925, in Montrose to Herman and Emma (Weege) Duske. She married Donivan Chaffins June 28, 1951, and their marriage was blessed with the births of four children.
She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren. Her volunteer hours at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center and church service were an important part of her life.
She was a 27 year member of the Howard Lake American Legion Auxiliary and felt honored to participate in Poppy Day and volunteer at the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital.
She will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a great-granddaughter Michaela Chaffins, brothers Herbert, Otto, Leo, Ervin, and Vernon; and sisters Mildred Francis, Esther Farber, Irene Duske, Lois Farnick, and Ruth Duske.
She is survived by her daughter Emmagene (Ron) Gilbert and sons Daniel (Elaine), Michael (Marion), and Gordon (Dawn); grandchildren Jason and Amy Chaffins, Daryl and Holly Chaffins, Jason and Jennifer Gilbert, Ryan Chaffins, Heather Chaffins, Brett Gilbert, Katie Chaffins, Nathan Chaffins; great-grandchildren Alexander Gilbert and Skyler Chaffins; a brother Duane Duske, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Howard Lake Christian Church. The Rev. Rick Messer officiated the service.
Music was provided by Dennis Entinger.
Steven Duske, Steven Duske, Jr., Adrian Duske, Clifford Duske, James Frances, and Barry Farber served as casket bearers.
Honorary casket bearers were Ione's grandchildren, Jason Chaffins, Ryan Chaffins, Daryl Chaffins, Heather Chaffins, Jason Gilbert, Brett Gilbert, Katie Chaffins, Nathan Chaffins, Alex Gilbert, and Skyler Chaffins.
Arrangements were made by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc., of Cokato and Howard Lake.
