Rita A. Dougherty
Rita A. Dougherty, age 83, of Litchfield, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the Emmanuel Nursing in Litchfield.
Rita Agatha Dougherty was born June 26, 1919, in Winsted to Clemens and Mary (Lueck) Quast. She attended school in Winsted through the eighth grade.
In 1949, the family moved to Litchfield.
Rita married Robert Charles Dougherty Oct. 26, 1954, and together, they lived in Litchfield where Rita worked for many years as a cook at Jonachecks Restaurant.
Rita was a member of St. Philips Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Association, and the Council of Catholic Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Clemens and Mary Quast; and two sisters, Anna Sterner and Eleanor Henfling.
She is survived by one sister, Leona Quast; four nieces, Fidelia Lahr of Eden Valley, Monica Engel of St. Paul, Clare Conger of Naples, Fla., and Rita Holmgren of Bemidji; two nephews, Albin Sterner of Eden Prairie and Donald Sterner of Eau Clare, Wis.; many grand-nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Saturday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m., at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield with the Rev. Mark Mallak officiating.
Diana McCarney was organist for the service, Teri Buschette was cantor, and special music was provided by the Resurrection Choir.
Lawrence Lahr, Kenneth Lahr, Paul Lahr, Dennis Lahr, Richard Engel, and John Engel served as casketbearers.
Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home with a Catholic Aid Association Rosary at 4:30 p.m.
Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery, Litchfield.
Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home served the family.
