Maynard E. Ehrke, 82
Maynard E. Ehrke, of Glencoe, entered his eternal rest Sept. 23, 2002, at Long Term Care in Glencoe at the age of 82 years, five months, and two days.
Maynard Ewald Heinrich Ehrke was born the son of August and Anna (Dose) Ehrke April 21, 1920, in Bergen Township, McLeod County.
Maynard was baptized in his home by the Rev. Arthur Spleiss April 25, 1920. He was then confirmed into the faith May 20, 1934, by the Rev. Paul Eckert at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Maynard attended school in Lester Prairie and also in River Forest, Ill. He was united in marriage to Rosella Gebhardt at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Ruth, Stanley, Glenn, Judy, and Marjorie.
Maynard lived on the farm in Bergen Township until 1967 when he then moved to Glencoe and was employed at Glencoe Butter and Produce Locker Plant for many years. Maynard was active throughout the community, which he was a member of the Lions Club, and also helped out at the Buffalo Creek Players Theater.
One of Maynard's greatest joys in life was rollerskating, which he continued to do into his mid-60s. He loved the go dancing and would do a lot of traveling to the Black Hills.
Maynard also enjoyed spending much of his time in the garden. He became a resident at the Glencoe Regional Health Services long-term care March 3, 1998.
Maynard is preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn son, one sister and brother-in-law Lydia and William Michaletz, and one brother and sister-in-law Norman and Myrna Ehrke.
He is survived by his children Ruth (Leonard) Lange of Glencoe, Stanley (Charlotte) Ehrke of Lester Prairie, Glenn (Mary Jane) Ehrke of Winsted, Judi (fiancé Pete Dumbar) of Blairstown, Iowa, and Marjorie (Bill) Genz of Winthrop.
He is further survived by grandchildren Amy (Michael) Goetsch, Lory Rotondo, Beth Sommers, Sheldon (Lori) Ehrke, Rick (Katie) Ehrke, Garrett Ehrke, Angel Rossi, Anna Rossi, Gus Rossi, Darla Genz, Darci Genz, and Darrin Genz;
great-grandchildren Alexa and Sam Goetsch, Corrina Rotondo, Brock and Kennedy Sommers, and Shane, Tyler, and Cole Ehrke; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Maynard Ehrke were Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Glencoe, with the Rev. Randell Tonn officiating.
Dawn Wolter was the organist, and Darla Genz was the pianist and played "In The Garden."
The congregational hymns were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "How Precious Is The Book Divine," and "Heaven Is My Home."
Serving as casketbearers were Amy Goetsch, Sheldon Ehrke, Garrett Ehrke, Darla Genz, Darci Genz, Darrin Genz, Rick Ehrke, and Beth Sommers.
The honorary casket bearers were Lory Rotondo, Angel Rossi, Anna Rossi, and Gus Rossi.
Interment was in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
Visitation was Wednesday evening at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
