Loren E. Freeberg
A memorial services for Loren E. Freeberg, 72, of McGregor will be held on Saturday, July 6, from Grace Lutheran Church near McGregor, with the Rev. Robert Munneke officiating.
Mr. Freeberg died on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Waconia Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Waconia.
Mr. Freeberg was born on April 13, 1930, at Willmar to Algot and Grace Freeberg. He attended schools at Svea, Minn., and also helped run the family farm. He then served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Freeberg married Jean E. Thompson on July 12, 1955, at Svea. They made their home in Glencoe.
Mr. Freeberg attended college and earned his bachelor of science degree in engineering. He worked at Telex Communications for 32 years before retiring in 1989. Upon his retirement, they moved to the McGregor area.
He was a member of the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce, served on Glencoe City Council, the Aitkin County Forestry Board, the Big Sandy Lake Watershed Task Force, and the Turner Township Board. He was a member of the Savana Country Club.
Mr. Freeberg enjoyed bowling, was a small plane pilot and an avid mechanic who could fix anything.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Jim Dixon of Chaska, Jackie and Nathan Schmalz of Lester Prairie; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jean Freeberg of Hudson, Wis.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Russ and Betty Thompson of McGregor; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Jack Serfling of McGregor and Grace and Rodney Tillman of Tamarack; six grandchildren, Michael Dixon, Melanie (Josh) Eckstein, Phillip Schmalz, Megan Schmalz, Melissa Freeberg and Dean Freeberg; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Ruby Freeberg of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean, on May 10, 2002; and a sister, Ardella Meyers.
The McGregor Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
