Vernice Glessing
Vernice Glessing, age 84, of Howard Lake, passed away Wednesday,
May 29, at her home in Howard Lake.
Vernice was born in Albion Township, Wright County, Feb.
14, 1919, the daughter of Rudolph and Hedwig (Hattie) nee Ziedler Treichler.

She was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville
Township by the Rev. A. Streufert March 23, 1919, and confirmed in her faith
at that same church March 20, 1932, by the Rev. William Kanning.
She was united in marriage to Howard Glessing at St. James
Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. E. N. Seltz. This union was blessed
with the births of two daughters.
They made their home and living on a farm south of Howard
Lake, and upon retiring, moved to town.
As a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Vernice made
quilts with the guilds, worked at newsletter assembly, and served on the
alter guild. She also volunteered at the care center.
Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed being
involved with them and their activities.
While at her home May 29, 2002, Vernice was called to her
eternal rest at the age of 83 years, three months, and 15 days.
Vernice was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and
Hedwig Treichler, husband Howard, sister Florence Uecker, brother Harvey
Treicher, son-in-law Donald Erickson, and brother-in-law Waldemar Uecker.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Erickson of Rochester,
and Connie (Paul) Diers of Turlock, Calif.; four grandchildren, Denys (Tyge)
Zucker, Darla (Todd) Heikes, Mitchell Diers, and Andrew Diers; two great-grandchildren,
Darci Heikes, and Bryan Zucker; sister, Mabel (Harold) Loesch; sister-in-law,
Delores Treichler; nieces; nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation took place Friday, May 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.
at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake, and one hour prior to service
at church. A prayer service was also conducted at 8 p.m. Friday evening.
Funeral services for Vernice were Saturday, June 1, 11
a.m., at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva
and the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating.
The organist was Luke Dahl, with special music by the St.
James Women’s Choir.
Pallbearers were Allen Glessing, Neal Glessing, Rolland
Glessing, Carl Uecker, Richard Glessing, Marlin Diers, Ralph Uecker, and
Roger Handrich.
Interment was at the Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral
Home of Howard Lake.
