Edward O. (Pete) Groenke

Edward O. (Pete) Groenke, age 73, of New Germany, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Elim Home in Watertown.

Edward was born April 26, 1929, in Watertown Township, Carver County, the son of William C. and Wilhelmina A. (nee Koehler) Groenke.

He was baptized May 19, 1929, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. F. W. Erthal and confirmed April 18, 1943, at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.

Pete's first job was a water boy for the Highway 7 project. His checks were made out to "King Edward of Hollywood." His many jobs included the New Germany Produce, the Winsted Creamery, J. R. Clarke in Spring Park, and Advance Machine in Plymouth.

Pete was a great friend to his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Wilhelmina Groenke, brothers Donald, Milan, and Dale Groenke; and sister-in-law Bernice Groenke and brother-in-law Elmer Campbell.

He is survived by brother and sister-in-law Willard (Jesse) and Jean Groenke of New Germany, sister Marcille Groenke of Minneapolis, sister Lillian Campbell of Minneapolis, brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Joan Groenke of Fridley, brother George Groenke of Las Vegas, Nev., sister-in-law Gloria Groenke of Minneapolis.

He is further survived by nephews Scott and Brenda Groenke, Steven and Jodie Campbell, Wyman Groenke, Craig and Chris Groenke; great-nieces and nephews Jenn, Josh, Nate, Ashley, Tyler, Dilan, Halen, and Kali; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating.

Casketbearers were Scott Groenke, Steven Campbell, Wyman Groenke, Craig Groenke, Gerald Roepke, and Bob Roepke.

Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, New Germany.

Arrangements were made by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
