Dorothea (Dorothy) Elsie Heldt
Dorothea (Dorothy) Elsie Heldt, age 91, of Brownton and formerly of Lester Prairie, entered her eternal rest peacefully and unexpectedly at the Glencoe Regional Health Services Friday, April 5, 2002.
Dorothy was born the daughter of the late Karl and Augusta (Noerenberg) Baumann March 28, 1911, in Hollywood Township, Carver County.
She was baptized April 23, 1911, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township by the Rev. Theo Rolf, and confirmed March 17, 1925, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.
Dorothy received her education for the first six years at a country school that was close to home, and then attended the Hollywood parochial school for her seventh and eighth grade education.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Wilhelm Heldt Tuesday, June 26, 1934, at St. John's by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.
After their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm in Bergen Township until 1963, when they moved to Lester Prairie.
The couple was blessed with one son and three daughters. Wilhelm and Dorothy had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 1, 1984.
After the death of her husband, Wilhelm, Dec. 23, 1984, Dorothy continued to live in her home in Lester Prairie until April of 1995. She then became a resident at the Shade Tree Retirement Center in Brownton.
Dorothy felt that she was very privileged to celebrate her 91st birthday. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and loved to do embroidering until she was 89 years old.
Dorothy worked in the canning factory in Winsted and Glencoe, and she also worked at the Alice Haney Rest Home in Lester Prairie for many years. She enjoyed to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and took a great joy in everything that they did.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Agnes, Emma, Helena, Lacorda; brothers, Frederick, Martin, Otto, Ernest, Herbert, Walter, and Ruben; and also several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
She is survived by her son, Norman Heldt (Ethyl) of Plato; daughters, Marlys Friauf (Donald) of Glencoe, Darlene Weber of Winthrop, and Verdella Moehring (Marvin) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Cheryl Kooiman (Larry) Wauwatosa, Wis., David Heldt (and special friend Kathy Anderson) of Plato, Wanda Hanson (Edmund) of Silver Lake, Nancy Wallace (Patrick) of Jordan, Gary Friauf (Renee) of Lake Lillian, Linda Anderson (Michael) of Winthrop, Kevin Weber (Sharon) of Brownton, and Paul Moehring of Minneapolis;
Great-grandchildren, Brett and Tyler Kooiman, Breanna and Braelyn Heldt, Brittany and Alexis Hanson, Erik and Grace Wallace, Jayden Friauf, Weston Whitney and Wyatt Anderson, and Layla Moehring; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Esther and Harold J. Hoof; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy Heldt, age 91, of Brownton and formerly of Lester Prairie, were Tuesday, April 9, 2002, 2 p.m., at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Officiating was the Rev. Grant Bode.
The organist was Jane Holasek and the soloist was Lawrence Bierman who sang "So Nimm Denn Meine Hande" and "In The Garden." The congregational hymns were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art."
Serving as casket bearers were David Heldt, Gary Friauf, Paul Moehring, Kevin Weber, Willard Baumann, Darrel Baumann, Linus Groenke, and Randy Pawelk.
The honorary casket bearers were Cheryl Kooiman, Linda Anderson, Nancy Wallace, and Wanda Hanson.
Interment was at the church cemetery, and visitation was Monday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
