Joseph B. Horstmann
Joseph B. Horstmann, age 85, of Winsted, died early Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born May 5, 1917, in Victor Township, Wright County, the son of Joseph B. and Cecilia M. Quast Horstmann.
Joseph B. Horstmann and Mary I. Snyder were joined in holy marriage May 2, 1946, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester. God blessed their marriage with eight children.
Joseph and Mary Horstmann engaged in dairy farming in Winsted Township, McLeod County, for many years and moved into the city of Winsted six years ago.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, formerly sang in its choir, and was a church usher for many years.
Joseph belonged to Holy Family Council 204 for more than 50 years, and to the Knights of Columbus Council 8253 for more than 35 years. He was a former longtime member of the Farm Bureau.
He also enjoyed polkas and playing cards, checkers, and chess.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Snyder Horstmann; children, Jerome J. Horstmann of Winsted, Mary Jean Horstmann of Waconia, James M. Horstmann of San Diego, Calif., Francis P. Horstmann of St. Cloud, Maria D. (Charles) Mathews of Glencoe, and Thomas G. (Mary Jo) Horstmann of Winsted.
He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Joseph Horstmann; Starrla Mathews, Sarah Mathews, and Chad Mathews; Rose Sullivan; Ryan Horstmann and Kristin Horstmann; a great-grandchild, Kevin; two sisters, Sister Mary Jo Horstmann, SSSF, of Fond du Lac, Wis. and Verena Evans of Easton, Conn.; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Horstmann, Agatha Horstmann, Donna Sabin and Lorraine Snyder, many other relatives and friends.
Joseph is preceded in death by sons, Joseph B. Horstmann, Jr., in 1977, and Robert C. Horstmann in 1980; his parents, Joseph and Cecilia Horstmann; brothers, Albert, Leon, and Cletus Horstmann; sisters, Sister Amatilla, SSSF, and Sister Vittorio, SSSF, and Sister Suzanne, SSSF.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Horstmann was Monday, June 24, 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the principal concelebrant, with the Rev. Martin Rath, OSB, the Rev. Dennis Becker, and the Rev. Robert J. Wyffels as concelebrants.
Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Lavon Kielkucki was the organist for the Mass, and Angela Horstman was the soloist.
Jerome Horstmann, Thomas Horstmann, Francis Horstmann, Charles Horstmann, Mark Horstmann, Charles Mathews, Paul Evans, and Raphael Quast served as casketbearers.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted Sunday, June 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Holy Family Council rosary was at 4:30 p.m., a Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
