Gertrude Jones of Cokato passed away Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Cokato Manor at the age of 90 years, nine months, and 26 days.
Gertrude was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Annandale to Thaddeus and Jannette (Walters) Heaton. She grew up in Annandale and attended Annandale High School.
Gertrude was baptized at the Church of Christ, Howard Lake, in May of 1949.
She married William Jones Sept. 19, 1928. They made their homes in Annandale, St. Cloud, Howard Lake, and then settled in Cokato.
Gertrude worked at Green Giant, Tonka Toys, and Dura Supreme. She enjoyed cooking and baking, he job as homemaker was very important to her.
She was a member of the GAR in Annandale, volunteered at the Cokato Museum and was an active member of Walker United Methodist Church in Howard Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dale, grandchildren Jeffrey Jones, Linda Schleif, and Bruce Weller, three brothers, and three sisters.
Gertrude is survived by her children, Patricia Schroedl of Minneapolis, Marion Weller of West St. Paul, Robert (Florence) Jones of Randall, and Phyllis Birkholz of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law Lois Jones of St. Bonifacius; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
A gathering took place Thursday, Oct. 24 from noon until 2 p.m., with funeral services following at 2 p.m., at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Debra Clausen officiated the service.
Inurnment was at the Cokato City Cemetery, and Urn bearer was Brad Birkholz.
Arrangements were made by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato and Howard Lake.
