Ivan L. Kahle
Ivan L. Kahle, age 80, of Norwood Young America, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at his home in Hancock Township.
Ivan was born April 20, 1922, the son of Frank and Ida (nee Jentz) Kahle at Blakely, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Henderson.
He was united in marriage to Ethel E. Rolf at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church April 24, 1942, by the Rev. A. O. Mann.
Ivan and Ethel farmed their entire lives together, Ivan overhauled tractor engines and various other farm implements.
He led an "Old Tyme" band for 56 years, playing in four different states. In 1993, the band was the only one from Minnesota to play for the presidential party on the mall at the US capital in Washington, DC. He is being inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame Nov. 1, 2002.
Ivan loved to fish and travel with Ethel in their motorhome, and loved to play cards and visit. He attended many functions at Lutheran High School in Mayer.
He was active as a township board member for Hancock Township and served on the Carver County senior advisory board.
He participated in the Lutheran Layman's League. Ivan also loved to sing, and sang with the Zion and Trinity Choirs, in addition to the Norwood Chorus.
He was the main and loving caregiver of Ethel before she went to the nursing home. He loved his family, and his life exemplified the Christian life through regular church attendance, Bible study, and other support of the church. He believed in the faith through the saving grace of our Lord.
Ivan believed in the eternal promise of everlasting life, and that because Jesus lives, we shall live also.
Ivan is preceded in death by his sons-in-law Kurt Mackenthun and Walter Bussmann; his parents Frank and Ida Kahle; sister Ina Petzel; and brothers Lloyd and Merrill Kahle.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; children and spouses, Jerry and Sharon Kahle of Cologne, Pam Mackenthun Bussmann of Waconia, and Patty and Lynn Zellman of Cologne;
grandchildren, Michelle and Kurt Schroeder, Craig Kahle, Kim Kahle and fiancé Bill Pollock, Paul Mackenthun and fiancée Dawn Anderson, Jeff Mackenthun, Melissa and Michael Schuette, Teresa Zellman and friend Al Jopp, Andy Zellman, Lisa Zellman.
He is further survived by great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Laura, Becca, Ashley, Courtney, Josh, Tiffany, Samantha, Samantha, Jayda, Breannna, Felicia, and Cody; brother and sisters-in-law Marvin and Alice Kahle of LeSueur, Irene Kahle of Belle Plaine; brother-in-law Merrill Otto of Belle Plaine; sister-in-law Mabel Rolf of Cologne; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia, with the Rev. Peter Peitsch and the Rev. James Wilk officiating.
Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Benton Township, Cologne.
Ivan's grandchildren served as casketbearers.
