Irene M. Karels
Irene M. Karels, age 88, of Watertown, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Auburn West in Waconia.
Irene was born Oct. 22, 1913, in Rosen, Minn., the daughter of Steven and Anna (nee Knott) Karels.
She married Leonard P. (Pete) Karels at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly, Nov. 29, 1930.
Irene spent most of her adult life farming. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Her husband Pete; son, Francis Karels; daughters-in-law, Shirley Karels and Carol Karels; granddaughter Ann Anacker; brother Andrew Karels; sisters, Magdalene Campbell, Veronica Sherman, Bridget Stackhart, and Gertrude Fick preceded Irene in death.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Donald and Joanne Karels of Waconia, Charles Karels of Watertown, Ruth and Charles Bussey of Hibbing, Donna and Marvin Sluka of Spicer, Roger and Gloria Karels of Waconia, Carol and Keith Mohrbacher of Chaska, and James Karels of Watertown; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by sister, Genevieve Lamb of Waverly; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leo and Sophie Karels of Plymouth, and Adeline Karels of Winsted; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, July 10, 2002, 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Frank Wampach officiating. Ricky Karels, Todd Karels, Jason Karels, Christopher Karels, Jeffery Bussey, Troy Karels, and Jamie Traxler served as casketbearers.
Interment was at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Watertown.
Arrangements were made by the Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
