Flora Brower Lee
Flora Brower Lee, of Hutchinson and formerly of Howard Lake, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Hutchinson at Cedar Crest Estates, where she had lived the past four-and-a-half years. She had reached the age of 95 years, eight months, and 27 days.
Flora was born March 7, 1907, to Fred G. and Valma (Vincent) Brower at Carlton, Minn. She moved with her family to Kimball at the age of six, where she attended school and graduated in 1924. She attended St. Cloud Teachers College and graduated in 1926.
After student teaching at Little Falls, Flo taught first and second grades at Kimball and then at Howard Lake. Flo met Dr. Alvin Lee, the local veterinarian, and they were married at her parents home June 10, 1931.
Flo accompanied her husband to Texas where he bought cattle for the government during a drought. They made their permanent home in Howard Lake. Dr. Lee passed away in 1962.
Flo was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Easter Star, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Darrell and Fred, and twin sisters Ada Walton and Avis Marklowitz.
She is survived by her two children: Nancy (LeRoy) Kivi of South Haven and David (Jeanette) Lee of Dassel; eight grandchildren: Todd Kivi, Scott Kivi, Kent Kivi, Jeff Lee, Sonia Lee, Kristen MacAloon, Eric Lee, Steven Lee; 11 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Marian Brower of Ashland, Wis., and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Friday, Dec. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake, with Rev. Shannon officiating. A visitation took place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casket bearers were her grandchildren Scott Kivi, Kent Kivi, Jeff Lee, Sonia Lee, Eric Lee, and Steven Lee. Music was provided by Patricia Munson and Michelle Kivi.
Interment was at the Howard Lake City Cemetery.
