Mary V. Lhotka
Mary V. Lhotka (Mrs. George Sr.), age 89, of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at St. Mary's Care Center, Winsted.
Mary was born May 2, 1912, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod Co., to Anthony and Louisa (Urban) Wosmek.
She attended District 12 country school through the eighth grade. Mary married George F. Lhotka June 9, 1930, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Together, they farmed until George passed away June 30, 1954.
Following her husband's death, Mary remained on the farm to raise her children and worked as a seasonal employee at Green Giant Co., cooked at cafes, and worked many years as a caregiver. She remained on the farm until entering St. Mary's Care Center in April, 1998.
Mary was an avid homemaker. She had a large garden, which included many beautiful flowers. She loved to bake and sew. Hobbies included reading and doing craft work.
She made a lot of stuffed toys for all her grandchildren and the missions. Mission sales were very important to her; she spent many hours sewing and preparing for them. She was well known for the many sock monkeys, clowns, dolls, and numerous other items that she made.
She loved to entertain family and friends, and enjoyed having them over for birthdays and picnics. One important event was the annual "watermelon picnic" for her family.
Mary was a member of the CCW and Rosary Society. She was also a 4-H Club leader and active with the Home Extension Group.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Anthony and Louisa Wosmek; and brother Henry Wosmek.
She is survived by her daughter, Beatrice Kulinski and husband Ed; sons, Ray and wife Joyce, Don and wife Marion, Francis and wife Pokhui, George and wife Helen, Roger and wife Genny, and Larry and wife Janice.
She is further survived by 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; brother, Ray and wife Eunice Wosmek; sister, Blanche Navara; along with many relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary V. Lhotka was Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Bob Mraz officiating.
Organist Val Shamla accompanied the Holy Family Choir. Congregational hymns were "Here I Am Lord," "On This Day O' Beautiful Mother," "On Eagle's Wings," and "How Great Thou Art."
Reader was Edward Kulinski. Commentator was Genny Lhotka. The CCW and Rosary Society marched in procession.
Pall bearers were Jeff Lhotka, Ryan Lhotka, Aaron Lhotka, Tim Lhotka, Danny Lhotka, and Tom Lhotka. Honorary pall bearers were Scott Lhotka, Tony Lhotka, Paul Lhotka, Francis Lhotka, Jr., and Darryl Lhotka.
Interment was at Holy Family Cemetery, Silver Lake, MN.
