Kenneth George Lockwood

Kenneth George Lockwood, age 83 years, nine months of Cordell, Okla., and formerly of Waverly and Hastings, passed away Feb. 4, 2002, after a brief illness.

Kenneth was born April 22, 1918 in Hastings, the eldest son of Stephen "Steve" Lockwood and Hazel (Pittenger) Lockwood. His mother, Hazel, passed away Jan. 4, 1923, when Ken was four years old.

Ken attended school at Hastings and Aberdeen, S.D., and moved to the Waverly farm with his dad, Steve, Sr., and stepmother, Gertrude Lockwood in March of 1936.

He enlisted in the US Army in Jan. 1942, and was honorably discharged in March, 1947, receiving many medals, including the purple heart.

Ken was a gunner on B-17 bombers, Fortress C-54 transports, and B-26 bombers during WWII, and a many-year member of American Legion Post 134 and VFW Post 4613 in Cordell.

Preceding Kenneth in death was his mother, Hazel, his father Stephen, and stepmother, Gertrude Lockwood; brothers, Steve Jr. and Ronald Lockwood Sr., nephew, Donald Henderson Jr., brother-in-law, Loren Adams, and other relatives in Oklahoma; grandparents, aunts, Carrie, Edith, and Grace; uncles, Edward, Walter, Homer, Arthur and Carl.

Ken is survived by his wife, Joyce and daughter, Penny (Eric) Nutton of Cordell; first wife, Dorothy and daughters, Hedy (Bill) McGrath, Bonita Lockwood, Donna (Fred) McCallister; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and other relatives in Oklahoma.

He is further survived by sisters, Kathleen Adams of Las Cruces, N.M., Jeannie Bowers of Howard Lake, Carole (Joe) Miller of Long Lake; Sister-in-law, Doris Lockwood of Maple Plain, and two sisters-in-law in Oklahoma; nephews, Dale Henderson, Mike, Ronald Jr. and David Lockwood, Les Libor and Jim Hayes; nieces, Wendy (Bob) McKee, Barbara and Julie, cousins, Don Louden, Marianne (Richard) Roarick and Bill Salogga.

Funeral services were Feb. 7, 2002, at the Baptist Church in Cordell, Okla. Graveside services with full military honors were conducted by Post 134 of the American Legion at Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell.
