Orlin Henry "Ole" Miller
Orlin Henry "Ole" Miller, age 78, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park.
Orlin was born April 13, 1924, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, to Fred and Anna (Dammann) Miller.
He was baptized April 24, 1924, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Plato by the Rev. R. Zwintscher. His sponsors were T.F. Miller, Anna Miller, and Otto Dammann.
Orlin attended country school District 57 and, later, St. John's Parochial School. He was confirmed April 10, 1938, at St. John's by the Rev. R. L. Ehlen.
Orlin was united in marriage with Adeline H. Graupmann at the St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Plato June 8, 1946, by the Rev. J. H. Bunge. The couple made their home on his family farm.
Orlin's passion for farming showed in his efficiency in farming of the land and the joy he derived from the harvest. He also enjoyed the daily routine of the dairy industry until 1978 when he quit milking cows, but continued farming the land until retirement in 1985.
The Millers moved to their home in Glencoe in 1985. Orlin worked part time for Green Giant, Glencoe Butter and Produce, and Haukos Brothers.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council, was a member of the Men's Club, and participated in Bible study groups. His interests also included woodworking, fishing, and traveling.
His grandchildren were very important to him and he enjoyed being a part of their lives.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Ruth Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Adeline Miller of Glencoe; and children, Cheryl (Carl) Rich of the Philippines, Gary (Noelle) Miller of the Philippines, Mark Miller of Burnsville, Grant (Debra) Miller of Glencoe, Paul (Hong) Miller of Oklahoma City, Okla., John Miller of Minneapolis.
He is further survived by grandchildren David Rich, Joanna Miller, Jonathan Miller, Hannah Miller, Suzanna Miller, Rebecca Miller, Molly Miller, Lynn Miller and Jill Miller; sister-in-law, Emily Graupmann of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Richard Plunkett of Rochester; as well as other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday evening, Dec. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Funeral services for Orlin Miller were Thursday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m., at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Plato, with the Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating.
The organist was Mary Mielke. The church choir sang. The congregational hymns were "Jesus Your Blood And Righteousness," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "Lo How A Rose Is Growing."
Serving as pallbearers were his children. Interment followed the church service at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
