Margaret Frances Newman, age 88, of Winsted, died early
Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, 2002, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
She was born Sept. 12, 1914, in Minneapolis, the daughter
of Frank L. and Pearl M. McCollow Horn.
Margaret F. Horn and John H. “Harvey” Newman
were joined in holy marriage July 12, 1938, in Minneapolis.
Margaret was employed at Power’s Department Store in Minneapolis
for 25 years.
She lived in Nevada for more than 21 years, and moved back
to Minneapolis in 1959. Margaret moved to Linden Wood Apartments in 1987.
She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church
in Winsted. She also served on the board at Linden Wood.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband John “Harvey”
Newman in 1958, sister Patricia “Billie”‘ Horn, and son-in-law
Bill Mahon.
She is survived by children: Margaret “Peggy”
Mahon of Glencoe and John (Lucy) Newman of Shoreview; five grandchildren:
William (Lori) Mahon Jr., Suzanne Mahon, Sarah (Tom Drong) Mahon, Mark Newman,
and Tim Newman; and five great-grandchildren: Clarissa and Jaimie Mahon,
Meagan Mahon, Mitchell and Amber Drong.
She is further survived by her sister Beth Pogorely of
New Hope and many other relatives and friends.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, Thursday,
Oct. 24, from 9 until 10:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Newman took place
Thursday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant.
Margaret’s five grandchildren served as her casket bearers.
Private interment took place at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
