Lawrence "Lars" Bernard Nowak
Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence "Lars" Bernard Nowak, 46, of Silver Lake, was held Thursday, Nov. 7, from the Church of the Holy Family in Silver Lake. Officiating was the Rev. Robert Mraz.
Mr. Nowak died on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Hutchinson Area Health Care.
The organist was Alice Nowak. Special music "You Are Mine" was sung by his nieces, Kristin, Stephanie, Jackie, Marisa and Allyson Hlavka, Stacy Exsted and Megan and Jamie Mickolichek. The church choir sang "Here I Am Lord." The congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "On Eagle's Wings." Mass servers were his nephews, Darrin and Ryan Exsted, and Cory Nowak.
Pallbearers were Jason Jerabek, Joel Jerabek, Jon Jerabek, Mike Piehl, Justin Hlavka, Chris Hlavka, Tracy Hesebek and Heidi Remus. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Noga, Ross Horstmann, Steve Guennigsmann, Nolan Johnson, Kevin Jacques and Ed Hanson.
Gift bearers were his god children, Justin Hlavka, Holly Wigern, Kelli Nowak and Janae Piehl. Readers were his sisters, Mary Madson, Kathy Exsted and Jeanette Mickolichek. Interment was in the St. Adalberts Catholic Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Mr. Nowak was born to Florian and Marietta (Fasching) Nowak on March 30, 1956, in Hutchinson. He attended St. Adalberts Catholic School and the Silver Lake Catholic School through the eighth grade. He then attended the Silver Lake High School.
Mr. Nowak had been employed by the Butler Lester Building Systems in Lester Prairie for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Silver Lake Sportsmen Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and anything else that dealt with the outdoors. He and son Matt tended to the deer at the sanctuary for many years. He liked going out to the farm and helping his family. He was very creative and loved to cook. He was an avid sports fan and followed the Vikings, Twins and Gophers. Mr. Nowak was outgoing, friendly, and had a memorable laugh and smile and a great sense of humor.
Survivors include his children, Amy and Matthew Nowak of Silver Lake; parents, Florian and Marietta Nowak of Silver Lake; brothers and sisters, Diane (Bill) Hlavka of Silver Lake, Mary (Mark) Madson of Hutchinson, Phil (Joleen) Nowak of Silver Lake, Joyce (Gary) Jerabek of Silver Lake, Kathy (Bruce) Exsted of Silver Lake, Jeanette (Larry) Mickolichek of Silver Lake, Gerald Nowak of Silver Lake; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents; brothers Michael and Christopher Nowak; and a niece, Amanda Nowak.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake handled the arrangements.
