Richard J. Ruzicka
Funeral services were held for Richard J. Ruzicka, 86, of Silver Lake on Monday, March 25, from Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating.
Mr. Ruzicka died on March 21, 2002, at Glencoe Regional Health Services of congestive heart failure.
Organist was Val Shamla, the lector was Ron Penas, the eucharistic minister was Julie Vasek and giftbearers were Amanda Ruzicka and Jacqui Ruzicka. Music included "Here I Am Lord," "The Old Rugged Cross," "Immaculate Mary" and "How Great Thou Art."
Pallbearers were Rob Ruzicka, Jennifer Wurdell, Marisa Ruzicka, Kimberly Ruzicka, Eric Ruzicka and Jonathon Ruzicka. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Mr. Ruzicka was born on July 15, 1915, in Hale Township, McLeod County, to Frank and Mary (Miska) Ruzicka. He attended elementary school in District 62 country school and Silver Lake High School. He also attended Hanson auto-mechanic school in Fargo, N.D.
He was a dairy farmer.
On Oct. 25, 1944, he married Anna Zaruba at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mr. Ruzicka enjoyed playing the concertina at home and for neighborhood parties and gatherings. He also enjoyed building, repairing and maintaining farm equipment and the homestead. His other interests included reading, gardening, oldtime music, playing cards and fishing.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include his children, Roger (Mary) Ruzicka, Dennis (Linda) Ruzicka, all of Hutchinson, Larry (Barb) Ruzicka, Kevin (Sue) Ruzicka, all of Silver Lake, Dianne Ruzicka of Minnetonka, Steve Ruzicka of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Lillian Knutson of Glencoe, Helen Rannow of Silver Lake, Christine Drahos of Excelsior; brother, David Ruzicka of Litchfield; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; infant brother, Leonard Ruzicka; and sister, Lucille Trombley.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake handled the arrangements.
