Donald Louis Schermann
Donald Schermann, of Winsted, passed away Wednesday, Dec.
4, 2002, at his home at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 21 days.
Donald Louis Schermann was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Winsted
Township of McLeod County, the son of Frank and Anna (Stifter) Schermann.
He attended the Holy Trinity Catholic School in Winsted.
Donald enlisted in the United States Army Jan. 21, 1951.
He served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge Dec. 23, 1952.
Donald was united in marriage to Genevieve Quast at Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The couple made their home in Winsted
until 1969 when they moved south of town. Donald worked in maintenance with
the Mid-America Creamery.
Donald was an active member of the Winsted American Legion
and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending polka
festivals, and listening to polka music.
Donald spent much of his time gardening and was known for
planting way too much. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, and loved
visiting with and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his wife.
Donald is survived by his children Brian Schermann of Winsted,
Roseanne Schermann (and special friend Craig Smith) of Shakopee, Jonathan
(Lisa) Schermann of Lester Prairie, Don Alan Schermann of Winsted; grandchildren
Harley Smith, Jacob Schermann, Noah Schermann, and Alexis Schermann; and
his father Frank Schermann of Glencoe.
He is further survived by sisters and brothers Marcella
(Sylvester) Pokornowski of Silver Lake, Norbert (Marlene) Schermann of Silver
Lake, Hubert (Margaret) Schermann of Silver Lake, Laura (Bernard) Kaczmarek
of Silver Lake;
sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Mercedes Nowak, Alma
Ogitzak, Treasa (James) Hance, Joseph (Irene) Quast, Raphael (Lorraine)
Quast, John (Mary) Quast, James (Sharon) Quast; as well as many other relatives
and friends.
Visitation took place Sunday, Dec. 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic
Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Donald
Schermann was Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, Winsted. Officiating was the Father Paul Wolf, and Lavon Kielkucki
served as organist.
Ronald Zuk, Paul Pokornowski, Darrell Kaczmarek, Donald
Miskovsky, Kathy Quast, and Loren Quast were casketbearers.
Interment with military honors were provided by the Winsted
American Legion at the church cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver
Lake.
