Helen A. Schmidt
Helen A. Schmidt, age 90, of Waconia and formerly of Watertown,
passed away Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Helen was born July 29, 1911 at Waconia Township, Carver
County, the daughter of Gottlieb and Eliza (Splettstoesser) Gatz. She was
baptized Aug. 20, 1911, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia, by the Rev.
William Schneider.
She married Fred. H. Schmidt June 30, 1935 at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Waconia, by the Rev. William Schneider.
Helen enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She had Bible class at church.
Helen also enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and traveling with
her husband.
She worked for Animal Fair years ago, and in addition,
she and Fred farmed for many years.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents,
Gottleib and Eliza Gatz; brothers, Otto, Fred, William, Edwin, and Theodore
Gatz; sisters, Emma Elling, Ida Splettstoesser, Louise Henke, Marge Pospishil,
Laura Griepentrog, Ella Burandt; four sisters and one brother in infancy.
Helen is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Schmidt
of Minneapolis, Wayne and Ruth Schmidt of Waconia, Roy Schmidt of Waconia,
Darlene Schmidt of Watertown.
She is further survived by her grandchildren, Kim and Troy
Goede, Kristen and Bruce Dunham, Michelle Justice, Tracy Schmidt and friend
Mike, Craig and Jennifer Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Amber, Dustin, Matthew,
Danielle, Laten, Carter, Austin, Samantha, Christina, and Shane; many nieces,
nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for Helen were Friday, March 22, 2002,
at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer. The Rev. Peter A. Meier officiated
the service.
Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Mayer.
Visitation was Friday, March 22, 2002, from 12:30 p.m.
until the time of the service at church.
Johnson Funeral Home served the family.
