Leslie E. Schrupp
Leslie E. Schrupp, age 77, of rural Norwood Young America,
passed away Sunday, April 7, 2002, at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in
Minneapolis.
Leslie Edwin Ernst Schrupp was born the son of Henry W.
and Lydia (Schmidt) Schrupp Dec. 30, 1924 in Young America Township of Carver
County. He was baptized the same day at his home by the Rev. Abraham.
Leslie attended the country school close to the family
farm and, later, St. Johns Parochial School.
He was confirmed in the faith at St. Johns Lutheran Church
by the Rev. Kramer April 10, 1938.
Leslie was united in marriage with Evelyn Ella Gruenhagen
at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Helen Township, McLeod County Feb. 24, 1946.
Officiating the service was the Rev. Schaller.
To this union were born eight children. The couple made
their home on the Schrupp farm in Young America Township, where they were
engaged in farming until their retirement in the early 1990s.
Leslie was a lifelong member of the St. Johns Lutheran
Church. His love was for farming and animals. He enjoyed working at the
sugar beet factory in Chaska and Green Giant in Glencoe in the 1970s and
1980s.
He also loved helping at the restaurant. Even after retirement,
Leslie enjoyed caring for the cats and dog on the farm. He also spent much
time gardening around the farm place, along with feeding and watching birds
and wildlife.
He cherished the time spent with family, especially his
grandchildren.
Leslie’s family and friends will always remember his sense
of humor.
Leslie is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lydia;
son Timothy; brother, Elford; parents-in-law, Ernest and Lydia Gruenhagen;
brother-in-law, Arnold Gruenhagen.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Norwood Young America;
and seven children, Marjorie (Richard) Stockman of Plato, Linda (Gary) Rehmann
of Lester Prairie, Jane (Duane) Pieschke of Norwood Young America, Cindy
(Mark) Noennig of Sabin, Robert (Linda) Schrupp of Waterford, Mich., Lori
(Rod) Manthey of Norwood Young America, and William Schrupp of Norwood Young
America.
He is further survived by 22 grandchildren, Todd (Sabrina)
Stockman, Tamara (fiance Hans Knutson, Trisha (Curtis) Olson, Tony (Jessica)
Stockman, Jeff Rehmann, Dan Rehmann, David Rehmann, Jennifer (Jeff) Otto,
Jill (James) Kriens, Josh Pieschke, Carrie Noennig, Katie Noennig, Caleb
Noennig, Joshua Noennig, Kimberly Schrupp, Matthew Schrupp, Brandon Schrupp,
Kevin Schrupp, Miranda Manthey, Mitchell Manthey, Tyler Manthey, and Rachel
Crosby;
Five great-grandchildren, Tabitha and Tiffini Stockman,
Abby and Lindsey Olson, Zachary Kreins; one aunt, Louise Menzel; one uncle,
Clarence Schrupp; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Leslie were Wednesday,
April 10, 2002, 1:30 p.m., at St. Johns Lutheran church in Norwood Young
America. Officiating was the Rev. David Winter.
Arthur Fuchs was organist, and the congregational hymns
were “Jesus Lead Thou On,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,”
“What a Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Just As I Am.”
Soloist, Lawrence Biermann sang “The Bourning Cry.”
Todd Stockman, Tony Stockman, Jeff Rehmann, Dan Rehmann,
David Rehmann, and Josh Pieschke served as casketbearers.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation and evening prayer service was Tuesday evening
at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America
Arrangements were made with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel
in Norwood Young America.
