Herbert "Bud" Venske
Herbert (Bud) Paul Venske was called to his eternal rest Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, while a resident at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 19 days.
Herbert was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Minneapolis, the son of Fred and Marie (Lunow) Venske. He was baptized in January of 1921 in Minneapolis, and confirmed in his faith at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by Rev. C.G. Seltz April 9, 1933.
He was united in marriage to Lucille Klemz Sept. 19, 1942, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Phoenix, Ariz., by Rev. H. Koehler. This union was blessed with the births of three children.
During WWII, Bud was called to serve his country in the US Army Air Corp. He was stationed in England under the command of Jimmy Stewart.
Upon his discharge from the service, he and Lucille made their home in Howard Lake. Bud worked at the Howard Lake Post Office for 28 years, and also served as post master. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing.
As a member of St. James Lutheran Church, he was active, attending Bible study, serving as church president, was a member of the stewardship board, the men's club, and at one time addressed the congregation with the sermon for Lutheran Laymen's League Sunday.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, parents Fred and Marie Venske, sisters Mildred Zech and Evelyn Venske, and son-in-law, Loren Stueven.
He is survived by his children, Carol (Brian) Moorhead, Jean (Steve) Guenther, and James (Kathie) Venske; eight grandchildren: Bret (Christine) Stueven, Chad (Kristal) Stueven, Jaime Stueven, Joseph Guenther, Anna Guenther, Cole Venske, Carrie Venske, Kyle (Connie) Moorhead; and seven great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Marshall, Kayla, Megan, Wyatt, Loren and Maddison.
He is further survived by two brothers: Homer Venske and Ralph Venske; one sister: Ruth Cross; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with Rev. Martin Schoenfeld and Rev. Michael Nirva officiating.
The organist was Nancy Butterfass, with special music by Kristal Stueven and Korey Luhmann.
Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Bret Stueven, Chad Stueven, Jaime Stueven, Joseph Guenther, Anna Guenther, Cole Venske, Carrie Venske, and Kyle Moorhead.
Arrangements were made by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
