Medard “Westy”‘ Westrup
Medard “Westy”‘ Westrup, age 77, of Winsted,
died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Winsted August 11, 1924, the son of Clemens
and Rosella Kieser Westrup.
Medard graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1942.
Medard honorably served his Country during World War II
in the United States Air Force. He had 32 missions over Italy in a B 24.
Medard Westrup and Florence Scheid were joined in holy
marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted July 22, 1947. God blessed
their marriage with two children.
Medard was employed for many years as a meat cutter at
the City Meat Market in Winsted. He later was employed for more than 20
years at the Advance Machine Company in Plymouth.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church
in Winsted. Westy also belonged to American Legion Post 407, Holy Family
Council 204, and to the 454th Bombardment Group.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Medard is survived by his wife, Florence M. “Flossy”
Westrup; children, Ron (Anita) Westrup of Cold Spring and Connie (Marv)
Showalter of Bennington, Neb.; grandchildren, Scott (Kim) Westrup of Rockford
and Molly (Bill) Schumal of Cottage Grove, Christopher (Sarah) Showalter
and Matthew Showalter, all of Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Megan and
Brianna Westrup and Jacob Schumal.
He is further survived by brother, Jerome Westrup of Winsted;
sister, Adeline Snegosky of Litchfield, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,
many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Medard “Westy”
Westrup was Thursday, Jan. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church
in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant, and interment with military
rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted
Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Holy Family Rosary was recited at
5:30 p.m., parish prayer service at 7 p.m. and an American Legion Ritual
at 7:30 p.m.
The mass commentator was Joe Remer. Mass servers were Josh
Remer and Kayla Thonvold. Gift bearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Scott Westrup, Bill Schumal, Christopher Showalter, Matthew Showalter, Chuck
Remer, and Lyle Kritzeck were casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
