Catherine May Yager
Catherine May Yager of Cokato, and formerly of Howard Lake, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Waconia Ridgeview Hospital at the age of 91 years, eight months, and eight days.
Catherine was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Rockford Township to John and Sara (Louisiana) Blummer. In 1918, Catherine's family moved from Rockford Township to Franklin Township, where she then grew up. Catherine attended country school north of Montrose.
Catherine married Leopold Yager Nov. 19, 1929, at St. James Lutheran Church parsonage. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Seltz.
The couple met while Leo was selling lamps door-to-door. Catherine and Leo lived first in Victor Township, then Woodland Township, and then moved back to Victor Township, where they farmed near Yager Lake. Catherine and Leo also sold seed corn for DeKalb.
Catherine was a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano. She enjoyed square dancing, watching movies, playing cards, fishing, and family picnics. She was active in the Howard Lake senior citizens group.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister and brother-in-law Velma (Earl) Lundberg, brother and sister-in-law, Dewey (Maxie) Blummer, and great-granddaughter Nichole Hirsch.
She is survived by her daughter Della Mae (Eldon) Hirsch of Howard Lake, four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Fern Yager of Waverly.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 3, from 4 to 9 p.m., at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
A funeral service for Catherine May Yager took place Monday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Delano. Rev. Paul Marggraf officiated the service.
Music was provided by Carol Wendorff.
Casketbearers were Ron and Cindy Grangroth, Robert and Doris Schendel, Carol Biskey, and Arnold Lundberg.
Interment was at Krydler Cemetery in Montrose.
Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato and Howard Lake served the family.
