Raleigh A. Yukel
Raleigh A. Yukel, age 79, of Silver Lake, passed away March 28, 2002, in Hutchinson.
Raleigh was born Dec. 6, 1922, in Hale Township, McLeod County. He was the son of Adolph and Martha (Hager) Yukel. He was baptized as an infant and, later, was confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at the Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. He graduated from the Silver Lake High School in 1940.
Raleigh was united in marriage to Lucille Jensen Oct. 4, 1952, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Their marriage was blessed with five children.
Raleigh and Lucille made their home on the Yukel family farm, north of Silver Lake, where Raleigh had been farming since graduating from high school. He milked dairy cows until 1983, and retired from farming in 1987.
After retirement, Raleigh and Lucille enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, and most of the continental United States. Raleigh and Lucille shared 49 years of marriage together.
Raleigh was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He also served as a board member for the Glencoe Butter and Produce Association from 1972 to 1981.
He enjoyed watching wrestling, sightseeing, traveling, going to auctions, reading, old time accordion music, and being an inventor.
He also liked to visit his family and friends and, especially, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and three great-granddaughters, giving them tractor and merry-go-round rides. He was known for being a great problem solver. He died at the age of 79 years. Blessed be his memory.
Raleigh is survived by his wife, Lucille Yukel of Silver Lake; children, Connie Yurek and her husband Douglas of Silver Lake, Karen Schmidt and her husband Gary of Robbinsdale, James Yukel and his wife Chris of Winsted, Judy Pratt and her husband Ron of Yokota AFB, Japan, Sandy Defries and her husband Mark of Hutchinson.
He is further survived by his grandchildren, Nicole Nickles and her husband Ken, Lacy Yurek, Jeremy Schmidt, Jeffrey Schmidt, Katrina Schmidt, Samantha Cuhel, Jonathan Yukel, Andy Pratt, Mark Pratt, Scott Pratt, Amy Koktan, and Aaron Koktan; great-granddaughters, Olivia, Desiree, and Vanessa; sister, Jeanette Price of Winter Park, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Martha Yukel; sister, Marian Yukel; granddaughters, Alyssa Yukel and Candace Defries, son-in-law, Gregory Koktan; father and mother-in-law, Jens Alfred and Louise Jensen.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2002, 1:30 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Paulus Pilgrim and the Rev. David Christensen officiating.
Raleigh's six grandsons were casketbearers.
Interment was at Presbyterian Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Arrangements were made by Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Hutchinson.
