Carla Frances Birkholz
While at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center, Carla Frances Birkholz was called to her eternal rest on Oct. 22, 2003 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 20 days.
Carla was born Aug. 2, 1915, to Ludwig and Cora (nee Strache) Roberts at Howard Lake, Minnesota.
A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, she was baptized August 22, 1915, by the Rev. Oetjen, and confirmed in her faith April 1, 1928 by the Pastor C.G. Seltz.
She was united in marriage to Willard Birkholz April 12, 1936. This union was blessed with four children. They made their home and living on a farm south of Howard Lake.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents Ludwig and Cora Roberts; husband Willard Birkholz; and grandaughter Delana Ruth Birkholz.
She is survived by her children, son Ned Birkholz and wife Roxanne of Boy River, daughter Gayle Ristow and husband Ray of Howard Lake, daughter Mary Smallish of Big Lake and son Rick Birkholz of Howard Lake; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were by Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva and the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating.
The organist was Nancy Butterfass, with special music by the St. James Bell Choir. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Birkholz, Steve Smallish, Ned Birkholz, Dan Ruzicka, Jim Bistodeau, Sean Warner, Ahmed Whittaker, and Dean Johnson.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
