Elmer G. Brockoff
Elmer G. Brockoff, age 89, of Cokato, and formerly of Victor Township, Wright County, died Monday evening, Oct. 6, 2003 at The Cokato Manor.
He was born April 19, 1914, near Green Isle, Minn., the son of Louis and Emma Tabbert Brockoff.
Elmer was baptized May 3, 1914, at Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, by the Rev. Karl Reuter. He was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 19, 1928, at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Reuter.
Elmer farmed with his father until 1941 and later worked for several farmers (including Melvin Sprengeler) in the Plato and Glencoe area. As a young man he also worked at Bongards Creamery.
Elmer Brockoff and Doris Forsberg Birkholz were joined in holy marriage April 16, 1993, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Pastor Michael Nirva officiated at the wedding ceremony.
Elmer was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
He is survived by step children Patricia (Clayton) Quast of Brainerd, Jane (Dale) Enwiller of Delano, Gary (Marilyn) Birkholz of Nokomis, Florida, and Berlyn (Elaine) Birkholz of Buffalo.
Elmer is further survived by brother Herbert (Aurelia) Brockoff of Cologne; sister Mabel Ehlers of Green Isle Township; sister-in-law Clara Brockoff of Green Isle, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Doris Oct. 20, 2001, parents Louis and Emma Brockoff, sisters and brothers Elsie Lucht, Edward Brockoff, Clara Sprengeler, Ella Brockoff and Harold Brockoff.
Funeral services for Elmer Brockoff were Thursday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. The Rev. Michael Nirva and the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiated. Interment followed at St. James Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends called at the church Thursday, Oct. 9 one hour prior to funeral services.
Nancy Butterfass was the organist. "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound," and "Abide with Me! Fast Falls the Eventide" were sung as congregational hymns.
Jerome Ehlers, Randy Brockoff, Harland Brockoff, Hollace Brockoff, Hilbern Brockoff, and Mel Sprengeler Jr. served as casketbearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
