Clara Mathilda Buckentin
Clara Mathilda Buckentin, 90, of Glencoe, died June 5, 2003, at Glencoe Regional Health services long-term care facility.
Clara Matilda Raether was born to Herman and Ida (Kruschke) Raether Dec. 28, 1912, in Lester Prairie. She was baptized Jan. 13, 1913, at the family home. She was later confirmed into the faith March 29, 1927, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Schert in Lester Prairie. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran School through the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to Herman Buckentin May 8, 1938, by the Rev. Schert in Lester Prairie. The couple made their home on the farm southeast of Plato. In 1998, they moved to Glencoe.
Clara loved to quilt and was part of a quilting group at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. She enjoyed being outside working in her garden, growing vegetables that she would can. The Buckentins liked to fish. She also liked to play cards with her friends, especially sheephead.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Herman; brothers and sisters, Leona Schuette, Lillian Ortloff, Emil Raether, Willmer Raether and Wyla Donnay.
Survivors include her children, Marlene (Donovan) Jensen of Howard Lake, Marvin (Sharon) Buckentin of St. Paul, and Arlys (Glenard) Ruschmeier of Biscay; grandchildren, Kirk (Dawn) Jensen, Michelle Weimiller, Stacy (Joel) Hirsch, Michael (Patti) Buckentin, Brad Buckentin, Daniel Buckentin, and Jody (Cory) Polifka; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Herbert (Mabel) Raether; brother and sisters-in-law, Bertha Lange, Albert Buckentin, and Gertrude Droege; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Clara Mathilda Buckentin, 90, of Glencoe, took place Sunday, June 8, from Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. Officiating was the Rev. Donald Andrix.
The organist was Larry Finke, and the congregational hymn was "Abide With Me." The Emanuel Men's Choir sang "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."
Serving as pallbearers were her grandchildren, Kirk Jensen, Mike Buckentin, Jody Polifka, Michelle Weimiller, Brad Buckentin, Stacy Hirsch and Daniel Buckentin. Interment was in the Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
