Laura E. Claessen, 90

Laura E. Claessen, age 90, of Waverly, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Cokato Manor.

She was born March 9, 1913 in Rogers, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Jaeb Janson.

Laura graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waverly.

Laura Janson and Paul Claessen were joined in holy marriage February 24, 1936 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Laura was formerly employed at the Waverly Post Office for 20 years and retired in 1975.

She was a faithful member of the Church of St. Mary in Waverly and helped count weekly collections for many years. Laura also belonged to Waverly's Senior Citizens and to the Waverly Boosters. She loved to play Whist at the senior citizens' meetings.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband Paul J. Claessen, her parents Daniel and Margaret Janson, and by a sister Agnes Vaughn.

Laura is survived by children Margy (Melvin) Millerbernd and Ed (Sue) Claessen, all of Waverly, and Jim Claessen of Howard Lake; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a great, great-grandson, a sister Clare McHale of St. Anthony, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Laura Claessen was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11 at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the Celebrant for the Mass and interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Therese Borrell was the organist.

Friends called at the Church Thursday, July l0 from 4to 8 p.m. A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m.

Chris Millerbernd, Mike Parochka, Allen Parochka, Nick Millerbernd, Dan Claessen and Jon Millerbernd served as Casket Bearers.

Honorary casket bearers were Mark Millerbernd, Mary Broll, Teresa Parochka, Gary Millerbernd, Joan Gust, Scott Millerbernd, and Ann Millerbernd.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
