Irene Cordella Gatz

Irene Cordella Gatz, age 74, of Winsted, died Sunday evening, Jan. 5, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

She was born April 14, 1928, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the daughter of Adolph and Clara Schwartz Stender.

Irene was baptized May 13, 1928, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hollywood by Pastor W. Ernst.

She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 18, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Pastor E. Schwandt. Her confirmation memory verse was Psalm 27:1.

Irene C. Stender and Milton G. Gatz were joined in holy marriage June 4, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hollywood.

Irene worked at Duebers in Winsted for more than 40 years, and also formerly at Green Giant.

Irene enjoyed embroidering and going to the Old Log Theater.

She was a faithful] member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, and belonged to its altar guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milton G. Gatz in 1955, an infant son, her parents, and brothers and sisters Norman Stender, Adelhaid Mielke, Eileen Mielke, Malinda Kassulker, and Hilton Stender.

She is survived by her children Karen (Lyle) Oestrich of Howard Lake, Linda (Chuck) Schuft of New Germany, Bonnie (Rodney) Jones of Howard Lake, and Dale (Deb) Gatz and Debbie (Steven) Stieve, all of Winsted; 13 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-step-grandchildren; other relatives and many great friends.

Funeral services for Irene Gatz were Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m., at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. Pastor Gerald L. Boldt officiated, and interment followed at the Winsted Public Cemetery.

Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 4 to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Danny Gatz, David Oestreich, Ruth L. Oestreich, Melissa Wing, Kelly Schuft & Beth Schuft served as casket bearers.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
