Ortwin John Heldt
Ortwin John Heldt entered his eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services at the age of 72 years, two months, and 22 days.
Ortwin was born the son of Henry and Bertha (Speigner) Heldt July 5, 1931 in Bergen Township, McLeod County, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Ortwin attended Bergen Township country school, and later graduated from Lester Prairie High School. He resided in Lester Prairie for 69 years, and in New Germany for the past three years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Heidi, and brother Earl Heldt, Sr.
Ortwin is survived by his children Betty (Stan) Lachermeier of Winsted, Helen (Bruce) Johnson of New Germany, Dale Heldt of Winsted, and Rodney Heldt of New Germany.
Ortwin is further survived by six grandchildren: Nicole (Soren) Sorensen, Melissa Lachermeier, Jackie Johnson, Brad Johnson, Shawn Heldt, and Amanda Heldt; brother Dennis (Carol) Heldt of Norwood Young America, sister Judy (Robert) Sellnow of Glencoe, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation was Monday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Ortwin Heldt, age 72, of Lester Prairie, were Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Officiating was the Rev. Grant T. Bode. The organist was Jane Holasek, and the soloist was Tom Ernhart, who sang "Peace in the Valley" and "Amazing Grace."
The congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "Rock of Ages," and "On Eagle's Wings."
Serving as casketbearers were Earl Heldt, Jr., Randy Sellnow, Darvin Heldt, Bob Bilger, Bruce Johnson, and Stan Lachermeier.
The honorary casketbearers were Ortwin's grandchildren: Nicole Sorensen, Melissa Lachermeier, Jackie Johnson, Brad Johnson, Shawn Heldt, and Amanda Heldt.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
