Ann Stephanie Herda

Ann Stephanie Herda, age 81, of Waverly, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center in Howard Lake.

Ann was born Oct. 10, 1921, to Henry and Emma (Braem) Mussche in Detroit, Mich.

Anna, as her parents called her, met and married Joseph Albert Herda and together they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Over the years they made their home in several Minnesota communities, including Albany and Lonsdale, before moving to Waverly where they currently reside.

Ann was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly, American Legion Auxiliary 305, and FRA auxiliary. She and Joseph were active members of the Polka Lovers Club of America. Sewing was a hobby, which was a constant throughout her life.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma (Braem) Mussche, daughters Debbie Herda and Margie Herda, sisters Clara Boekema and Laura Bach, and brother-in-law Julian Bertin.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Albert, sons Joseph J. and Debbie Herda, David and Joyce herda, Stephen Herda, James Herda, and Dan and Jamie Herda; daughters Mary and Steven Mattson, Connie and Jeff Sterner, and Terri Hutto, 18 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Ann is also survived by sisters Helen Bertin, and Martha and Bill Hannum, and brother-in-law Phil Boekema.

Mass of Christian burial was Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. Visitation was Tuesday afternoon and evening, and again prior to the services, all at the church in Waverly. The Rev. Timothy Cloutier officiated, with Therese Borrell playing the organ, and St. Mary's Choir providing music.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waverly.

Casketbearers were Scott Herda, Jeff Herda, Mike Herda, Tom Herda, Sammy Sterner, Jamie Fors, Eric Goepfert, and Andy Mattson.

Arrangements by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
