Vernon R. Jopp
Vernon R. Jopp, age 85, of New Germany, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Elim Home in Watertown.
He was born Oct. 8, 1917, at Hollywood Township in Carver County, Minn., the son of Robert and Selma (Rohloff) Jopp.
Vernon was baptized Nov. 4, 1917, and confirmed May 10, 1931, at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.
He was married to Loretta I. Schwalke Oct. 10, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. William Schneider.
Vernon was a trustee at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township for many years. He also played dartball with the men's group at the church. He enjoyed farming and playing the accordion. Vernon also sold feed for Moorman's. He also did seasonal work at Jolly Green Giant.
Vernon was preceded in death by parents Robert Jopp and Selma Jopp Goede, and brothers Wallace and Orville Jopp.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife Loretta, children and spouses Harlan and LouAnn Jopp of St. Augusta, Lois Jopp of New Germany, John and Julia Jopp of Watertown, grandchildren Karrie and Andy Bowen, Erik and Melissa Jopp, Jamie and Jenny Jopp, Jackie Jopp, and Jordan Jopp.
He is further survived by great grandchildren Annika Bowen and Emily Jopp, brother and sisters-in-law Alden and Irene Jopp of Mayer, Bernett Jopp of Mayer, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Anita and Wilbert Zastrow of Mayer, Verna Ketcher of Maple Plain, Hilton and Lila Schwalbe of Buffalo, Harold Schwalke of Waconia, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, with Vicar Robert J. Rupprecht officiating.
Interment was at the church cemetery. Casketbearers were the grandchildren.
The Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia served the family.
