John Matthew Keating

John Matthew Keating, age 88, of Winsted, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 10, 2003 at St. Mary's Care Center.

He was born March 5, 1915, the son of John H. and Mabel Keating.

John graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1933, and later attended Minneapolis Business College.

He began his association with Keating Hardware and Furniture in Winsted when he was six years old, and retired in 1991.

He was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #8253 and Holy Trinity Court #1054 Catholic Order of Foresters.

John was an honorable man and loving father, husband, grandfather, and brother. He was dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew him.

John is preceded in death by wives Elizabeth (Betty) Casey Keating in 1976, Mary Collins Keating in 1985, and Margaret E. Keating in 2002, his parents John and Mabel Keating, infant daughter Kathryn in 1955, son Patrick J. Keating in 1989, and by brother Kenneth "Red" Keating in 2001.

John is survived by children Mary Keating and Jack Keating, both of Minneapolis; a daughter-in-law, Jane (Robert) Bayerl of Winsted; grandchildren Joseph and Joshua Keating, and Rachel (Patrick) Davidson; a foster daughter Virginia Sigl of Sacremento, sister Rosemary Ritchie of Minnetonka, sister-in-law Del Keating of Winsted; other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for John Keating will be Monday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf will be the celebrant.

Friends called Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted from 4 to 8 p.m. A combined Knights of Columbus and Foresters Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., and a parish prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Casketbearers were Joseph Keating, Joshua Keating, Mike Keating, Tim Keating, Jon Ritchie, and John Bliefuss.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
