Douglas J. Kurtz

Douglas J. Kurtz, age 58, a resident of Little Falls, Minn., passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, as a result of an auto accident.

Douglas J. Kurtz was born March 29, 1945 in Watertown, Minn., to Henry and Alice (Perusse) Kurtz. Doug was a "big teddy bear" who liked to cook French toast and pork chops.

He loved his children and grandchildren, and he wanted to share with them the art of stripping furniture. Doug loved the Lord and frequently prayed for his children and as well as with them.

Many went with him on "Doug's adventures," a one hour trip that was frequently stretched to a three-hour adventure, depending on the amount of garage sale signs he saw.

People were Doug's top priority. He loved his clients at Medi-Van, and he would often tell stories of all of them that made his day. Doug was so generous, every sale he went to was to look for treasures for anyone he met that he thought might like a little treat.

His friends and family were frequent inheritors of "unusual" pieces.

He is survived by his mother Alice Kurtz of Engadine, Mich.; son Daniel Kurtz of Little Falls, Minn.; daughters Dawn (Brian) Gillman of Dassel, Rachel Kurtz of Minneapolis, and Vanessa (Brett) Martinson of St. Bonifacius.

Doug is further survived by brothers Curtis (Ruth) Kurtz of Bellgrade, Mont., and Hank (Suzanne) Kurtz of Novato, Calif.; sisters Charlotte (Charlie) Wedge of Engadine, Mich., Jacquelin (Pete) Quay of Wellington, Del., and Joanne (Charles) Davis of Flint, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lori Kurtz, and his father, Henry Kurtz.

Funeral service were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 at Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids, Minn. The Rev. Arthur Wood officiated.

Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home (West Chapel) in Little Falls, Minn.
