Melmer John Lahr, Sr.

Melmer John Lahr, Sr., age 69 of Howard Lake, died unexpectedly Aug. 27, 2003.

He was born March 21, 1934 to John and Evelyn (Zander) Lahr in Middleville Township, Wright County, Minn.

He was baptized April 22, 1934 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. C.G. Seltz and confirmed in his faith April 10, 1949 at that same church by the Rev. Theo. Melinat.

He grew up on the family farm just north of Howard Lake. He enjoyed farming until his death, along with his other hobbies, which included growing flowers, landscaping, ice fishing, and taking care of his ducks, geese, and chickens.

He loved spending time with friends and family, playing cards, eating out and just having a good time.

Melmer was preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Lahr, and brother-in-law Benny Major.

He is survived by his wife Renee (Entinger), daughter Connie (Randy) Goerke, son Alan (Meri Beth), daughter Carrie (Paul) Sweeney, son Melmer, Jr., and Tiffany, and son Ronald and Michelle.

Melmer is further survived by grandchildren Derek and Heidi Goerke, Jesse and Jackie Lahr, Shane and Laura Sweeney, Kaden Lahr and Katrina, brothers and sisters Mavis (Leroy) Taber, Marcella Major, Myron (Lucille) Lahr, Edwin Lahr and Lynne, Dianna (Jerry) Boettcher, former wife Joan Groenke, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Nancy Butterfass, with special music by soloist Dennis Entinger.

Interment was at the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery on Dutch Lake.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren Derek Goerke, Heidi Goerke, Jesse Lahr, Jackie Lahr, Kaden Lahr, Shane Sweeney, Laura Sweeney, Katrina Juncewski, and Lions club friends Terry Thorson, Vern Lemke, Dennis Massey, Mike Main, Bernie Rohling, and Tom Fiecke.

Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
