Hubert Bernard Luhman
On February 13, 2003, while a patient at the Waconia Hospital, Hubert Luhman was called to his eternal rest at the age of 75 years and 27 days.
Hubert Bernard Luhman was born January 17, 1928 in Victor Township, Wright County, Minnesota the son of Alfred and Clara nee Klammer Luhman.
A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, he was baptized Jan. 29, 1928 by Rev. C.G. Seltz and confirmed in his faith on March 29, 1942 by Reverend Eugene Seltz.
He attended school in Howard Lake and entered the armed service May 9, 1946 where he served with the occupational forces in Japan. Upon returning home, he drove truck for two years and began farming in 1950.
September 16, 1950 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Rudquist by the Reverend A.C. Edstrom at the Crow River Lutheran Church, rural Cokato. Their 52 years together were blessed with the birth of one son.
In 1963, Hubert retired from farming because of health reasons and went to work at Swartz Manufacturing Co. of Lester Prairie for two years, and in 1965 went to to work at Waconia Manufacturing Co. as a certified mechanic for the next twenty-five years.
As a member of St. James Lutheran Church, he served as an usher and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League.
Hubert retired in 1990 and enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening and working with wood.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Clara Luhman; and one brother, Harvey Luhman.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Luhman; son Michael and his wife Frances Luhman; twin sister, Harriet Gronlund and sister Laverne Custer; three brothers, Eugene Luhman, Adelbert Luhman, and Arvid Luhman; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were Mon., Feb. 17, 2003 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake with Rev. Michael Nirva and Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Nancy Butterfass with special music by soloist Brenda Rydberg. Internment was at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Pallbearers were Galen Johnson, David Pettit, Steven Custer, Rodney Pettit, James Gronlund, and Kevin Gronlund.
Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Klammer, Kenneth Klammer, Lorren Glessing, Willis Birkholz, Greg Luhman, and Mike Steffer.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake, Minnesota.
