Marietta Julia Mallak
Marietta Julia Mallak, age 74, of rural Silver Lake, died Friday morning, February 28, 2003, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 2l, 1929, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the daughter of Peter M. and Louisa Quast Kieser.
Marietta graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Winsted.
Marietta J. Kieser and Leo J. Mallak were joined in holy marriage July 12, 1949, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with seven children.
Together Marietta and Leo operated a dairy farm North of Silver Lake in Hale Township for many years.
She enjoyed baking, flowers, sewing, crocheting, polka dancing, and watching football on TV.
Marietta was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, its CCW, and Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Louisa Kieser, sister Irene Helmbrecht, and brothers Jerome Kieser and Alfred Kieser.
She is survived by her loving husband Leo J. MalIak of Silver Lake; children Gary (Pam) Mallak of Silver Lake, Ronald (Jeanette) Mallak of Kearney, Mo., David (Christine) Mallak of Silver Lake, Kathleen (Thomas) Urban of Biscay, Susan (Gary) Hennessey of Brooklyn Center, Duane (Cheryl) Mallak of Olivia, and Carolyn Scott of Peoria, Ill.
She is further survived by 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Reuben (Pearl) Kieser and sister Corrina Hagen, all of Winsted; half-sister Margie Handeland of Arizona; other relatives, and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marietta Mallak took place Monday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Robert J. Mraz was the celebrant, and interment followed at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Alice Nowak was the organist for the funeral Mass. "Sing of Mary," "Be Not Afraid," "On Eagles Wings," and "Amazing Grace" were sung as congregational hymns.
Friends called Sunday, March 2, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.
A combined CCW and Rosary Society Rosary was recited at 3:30 p.m., and a parish prayer service was at 8 p.m.
Casket bearers were Darrell Kieser, Mark Kieser, Daniel Kieser, Eugene Helmbrecht, Roy Hagen, and Jason Urban.
The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake served the family.
