Ortwin William Carl Mielke
Ortwin William Carl Mielke, age 86, of Webster, Wis., and formerly of New Germany, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 at St. Croix Valley Good Samaritan Center in St. Croix Falls, Wis.
He was born Dec. 10, 1916 in Camden Township, Carver County, the son of Henry and Emily Wischnack Mielke.
Ortwin was baptized Dec. 17, 1916 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 13, 1930, at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Ortwin Mielke and Adelhaid Stender were joined in holy marriage Oct. 12, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, Carver County. God blessed their marriage with two children. Adelhaid Mielke preceded her husband in death Aug. 18, 1982.
Ortwin Mielke and Lorraine Bronder were joined in holy marriage Oct. 12, 1985, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany. Ortwin and Lorraine moved to Devils Lake near Webster in 1986.
Mielke formerly owned Mielke's Bar in Carver, Minn. He also engaged in dairy farming east of New Germany for many years and worked as a handyman painting and wallpapering.
Through the years, Ortwin ("O.W.") enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and old time music.
He was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Webster and a former member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.
He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine I. Mielke of Webster, Wis., son Roger Mielke of New Germany, daughter Mary Jane Redmann of Hutchinson, four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother Melroy (LaVerna) Mielke of Park Rapids, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Ortwin was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Emily Mielke, brother Reuben Mielke, sister Selma Schroeder, and by grandson Christopher Mielke.
Funeral services for Ortwin Mielke were Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany. The Rev. Allen D. Holthus officiated, and interment followed at St. Mark's Cemetery.
Organist for the funeral service was Vernice Menth. Congregational hymns were "I'm But a Stranger Here," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives."
Friends called Saturday, Aug. 23 at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Casketbearers were Duane Mielke, Steven Mielke, Danny Mielke, Kevin Mielke, Joel Klaustermeier, and Dale Gatz.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
