Elizabeth (Betsy) Monson
Elizabeth (Betsy) Joyce Monson passed away Feb. 4, 2003, in Cokato after struggling with a muscle disease for many years. She had reached the age of 62 years, two months, and 12 days.
Elizabeth was born Nov. 23, 1940, in Oconto, Wis., to Edward and Beaula (Nichols) Monson. She grew up in the Albert Lea and Moose Lake areas.
She worked at the Co-op Store with her father. She graduated from Moose Lake High School and went on to achieve her college degree. Elizabeth took a job at General Mills as a food scientist. She retired from there a few years ago.
Elizabeth married Stanley Pettit and they made their home on the farm north of Smith Lake Dec. 4, 1982.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and fishing when time allowed. She was also very fond of cats.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John.
She is survived by her husband Stanley, sister Judy (Bruce) Barns of Baldwin, Wis.; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service took place Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Cokato. The Rev. Dan Swanson officiated the service.
Music was provided by Bonnie Johnson and Sandy Tanner.
Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato and Howard Lake served the family.
