Marie A. Oelke
Marie A. Oelke, of Lester Prairie, entered her eternal rest Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Glencoe Regional Health Service Long Term Care at the age of 87 years, four months, and 20 days.
Marie A. Oelke was born the daughter of B. and Anna Fries Nov. 21, 1915, in Green Isle Township. During her childhood, Marie grew up in Green Isle and attended country school.
Marie was united in marriage to Edwin Oelke Nov. 24, 1934, at Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle. They made their home in Bergen Township until 1951, when they moved to Lester Prairie.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Marie lived in Lester Prairie until she moved to the Glencoe Area Health Center Long Term Care in 1997.
Marie loved to grow flowers and work in her garden. She spent many days canning different vegetables from her garden.
Marie enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives. She really like to make her one-of-a-kind chive dumplings for everyone to try.
She also enjoyed holding little babies, no matter whose they were. She liked all animals, especially cats and dogs.
Marie loved to spend her time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed watching all of then grow up.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Oelke, her parents, daughter Mavis Heimkes, an infant daughter, son-in-law Donald Herrmann, great-grandchild Phillip Herrmann, and also all of her siblings and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her children Larry Oelke, Doris (Clarence) Kosek of Silver Lake, and Arlys (Virgil) Krueger of Ogden, Iowa; son-in-law Raymond Heimkes of Arlington; grandchildren Doug (Kathy) Herrmann, Scott (Pam) Herrmann, Daniel (Jane) Herrmann, Bill (Kari) Heimkes, Jill Heimkes, Dale (Joleen) Kosek, Linda (Dale) Kovar, Debra (Mark) Blazinski, JoAnn (Larry) Vande Steeg, James (Michelle) Kosek, Susan (Steve) Yurek, Betty (Dale) Wraspir, Margaret (Chad) Fronk, Gary Kosek, Mitchell (Kari) Krueger, Charles (Misty) Krueger, and Stacy (Gary) Lewis; 41 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her sister-in-law Clara Fries of St. Paul, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Marie Oelke were Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Officiating was the Rev. Grant Bode.
The organist was Marsha Christenson and the congregational hymns were "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," "Amazing Grace," "What a Friend We Have In Jesus," and "In the Garden."
Serving as casketbearers were Dale Kosek, James Kosek, Mitchell Krueger, Charles Krueger, Doug Herrmann, and Scott Herrmann. The honorary casket bearers were the rest of Marie's grandchildren.
Visitation was Monday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie. Interment was in the church cemetery.
