Wenglin "Tookie" Perkins
Wenglin "Tookie" Perkins, age 68, of Yarba Linda, Calif., and formerly of Lester Prairie, became ill Monday, April 28, 2003, in her home in California and passed away Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Western Medical Center in Santa Anna, Calif.
Wenglin Mae "Tookie" Perkins was born June 5, 1934, at the Hutchinson Hospital, the daughter of August and Emilia (Nieman) Leske. Tookie made her home with Elmer and Marcy Schwartz at the age of 10 years.
She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie in 1948. She graduated from the Lester Prairie High School in 1952.
Tookie was united in marriage to Thomas Perkins Dec. 21, 1957, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. They lived in Japan, Gawain, and Italy as Tom was in the United States Navy.
Tookie was a world traveler and always had a gift for her sisters when she returned.
Tookie and Tom had residences in Waipahu, Hawaii, and Yarba Linda, Calif.
Tookie is preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd Leske, sister Delain Vargason, and niece Bonnie Schwartz.
She is survived by her husband Tom of 45 years, three sisters: Darlin Dahlk of Litchfield, Leonora (Chuck) Halstead of Backus, Marcy (Elmer) Schwartz of Lester Prairie; brother-in-law George Vargason of Delano; as well as nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
A memorial service for Wenglin "Tookie" Perkins took place Thursday, May 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie. Officiating was the Rev. Grant Bode.
The organist was Marie Eischens. The congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus."
Interment of ashes was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel.
