Herbert H. Roufs
Herbert H. Roufs was born July 17, 1912 in Winsted to Fred and Emma (Griswold) Roufs. He entered eternal life Feb. 18, 2003.
He received his elementary and high school education from Holy Trinity graduating in 1930.
In 1931, he registered at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, from which he graduated in 1935 as a registered Pharmacist.
After working for J.O. Peterson Drug and Sanger Pharmacy for about six years, he managed Grais Pharmacy in Minneapolis for 12 years.
In 1953, he purchased the Scheffer Pharmacy back in his hometown of Winsted. After 24 years of service in Winsted, he sold the pharmacy to Ken Kremer July 1, 1977 and continued to provide assistance to Kremer for another 12 years.
Herb provided a total of 54 years of pharmaceutical care to his customers during his life.
On November 4, 1936, Herb was united in marriage to Helen Kleber, a registered nurse graduate from St. Mary's Hospital. The wedding was held at Holy Trinity Church of Winsted with Father Wey officiating.
The 58 year marriage ended with Helen's death on March 29, 1994. Their years in Winsted were marked with much involvement in community, church, and school affairs.
Herb was chairman of the finance campaign that brought St. Mary's Hospital and Home to the community.
He was treasurer of the civic and commerce association for many years and an ardent supporter of most improvements in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota State Pharmaceutical Association.
Herb was honored for over a quarter century of service on the Holy Trinity Finance Board, served two terms on the Parish Council, and was a member of both the Catholic Order of Foresters and Catholic Aid Society since 1930.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sister, and his wife.
He is survived by his four sons: Donald H. and wife Sue of Apple Valley, Richard T. and wife Myra of Maple Grove, David J. and wife Sue of Arlington, and Dennis M. and wife Patty of Maple Grove.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Friday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the Celebrant and interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home on Thurs., Feb. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. A combined Holy Family and Foresters Rosary was recited at 4:30 p.m. A Parish prayer service was held at 6 p.m.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
