Roger R. Scheid, age 79, of Maple Grove, formerly of Golden
Valley, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born May 19, 1924 in Winsted. He attended Holy
Trinity School in Winsted, and also St. John’s University, Collegeville.
He was a US Marine and Army veteran, and retired from the
Star Tribune after 25 years of service. He was also a volunteer firefighter
at the Golden Valley Fire Department for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by parents Lindon and Helena Scheid;
sister and brother-in-law Florence and Medard Westrup.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Marisa;
children Cynthia Wills (Travers), John, David and Deborah Scheid-Zopfi (Arnold);
grandchildren Lance, Adam, and Samantha; sisters and brother Eileen Knott
(George), Stanley Scheid, Cecile Laxen (Vince); other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at 10
a.m. at the Church of St. Olaf: Eighth St. and Second Ave. S., Minneapolis,
with visitation at 9 a.m.
Rev. John Forliti was the celebrant at the Mass. Organist/pianist
was Lynn Trapp and cantor was Dale Hills.
Pallbearers were sons John and David Scheid, grandsons
Lance and Adam Scheid, and sons-in-law Travers Wills and Arnold Zopfi.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
