Marion Mae Slanga obituary, 9/29/2003


Marion Mae Slanga, age 66, of Longville, Minn., died Monday,
Sept. 29, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd.
Marion was born May 20, 1937, in Lester Prairie, the daughter
of Edward and Lorena Miller. She grew up and attended school in Lester Prairie.
After graduating from high school she attended the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital
School of Nursing, earning her RN degree in 1958.
She married Roger Slanga Aug. 17, 1958, and they made their
home in St. Cloud until 1960.
Marion was a registered nurse at the University of Missouri
Hospital from 1960 until 1995, when they moved to Longville, Minn., and
have lived there until the present.
She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed singing, walking,
and cooking gourmet style. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church
in Walker and was previously a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St.
Cloud, and Campus Lutheran Church while living in Columbia, Mo.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents.
Marion is survived by her husband Roger of Longville, Minn.,
sons Peter (Stephanie) Slanga of Grand Marais, Minn., and Paul Slanga of
Appleton, Wis., grandsons Parker Slanga and Alex Slanga of Grand Marais,
sisters Norma (Allen) Spitler of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Julianne (DeWayne)
Litfin of Waconia.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m.
at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Walker, with the Rev. Daniel Burns officiating.
Visitation was at 9 a.m., and ran until the time of service.
Memorials are preferred.
Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home of Walker handled the funeral
arrangements.
