Elizabeth Wolter obituary, 10/23/2003


Funeral services for Elizabeth Wolter, 80, of Glencoe,
were held on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Glencoe. Officiating was the Rev. Ron Mathison.
Mrs. Wolter died on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Glencoe
Regional Health Services long-term care facility.
The organist was Mary Huebert, and soloist Glenda Schuft
sang “I’m But A Stranger Here.” The congregational hymns were
“For All The Saints” and “Abide With Me.”
Pallbearers were John Wolter, Jamie Alpaugh, Paulette Day,
Karla Gottfried, Jim Schimelpfenig and Jerry Schimelpfenig. Interment was
in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
Elizabeth Gottfried was born to Jacob and Dorothea (Hansch)
Gottfried on June 28, 1923, in Helen Township. She was baptized on Aug.
12, 1923 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. E.
Kolbe. She was confirmed into the faith on March 21, 1937, at First Evangelical
Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. Streufert. She attended country school near
Biscay and later First Lutheran School.
On Sept. 25, 1949, she was united in marriage with Maynard
Wolter at First Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. Streufert. The
couple made their home on Dairy Avenue east of Glencoe.
Mrs. Wolter was a 4-H leader and a past member of Ladies
Aid at First Lutheran. From 1976-1993, she was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran
Church in Lester Prairie and also a member of the St. Peter’s Ladies Aid.
She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, embroidery, playing
canasta and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Dawn) Wolter of
Glencoe, Charlotte (Michael) Alpaugh of Norwood Young America, Ronald Wolter
of Glencoe; grandchildren, John Wolter, Erin Wolter, Jamie Alpaugh, Ashley
Alpaugh; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman Schimelpfenig of Glencoe,
Howard Adams of St. Paul, Karen (Gordon) Healey of Glencoe, Bernice Wolter
of Glencoe, Melvin (LaVerna) Wolter of Lester Prairie, Ardell (Erna) Wolter
of Norwood Young America; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends.
Mrs. Wolter was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Maynard; an infant brother; brothers, Sam Gottfried and wife Evelyn, Edwin
Gottfried; sisters, Dorothy Griesmann and husband Fred, Mary Schimelpfenig,
Emma Adams; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Ruth Wolter, Orville
Wolter, Laverna and Ervin Miller; and also an infant brother-in-law.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel
in Glencoe.
