Funeral services for Leona Mathilda Wroge, 87, of Glencoe
were held on Thursday, Dec. 18, from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Glencoe with the Rev. Ron Mathison officiating.
Mrs. Wroge died on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at the long-term
care unit of Glencoe Regional Health Services.
The organist was Dawn Wolter. The congregational hymns
were “Just As I Am,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”
and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Pallbearers were Kevin Grack, Diana Easterday, Bryan Grack,
Michael Grack, Lanny Becker, Larry Becker, Lee Becker and Steve Becker.
Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery.
Leona Mathilda Gruenhagen was born to Henry and Alma (Belter)
Gruenhagen on March 5, 1916. She was baptized on March 12, 1916, at Emanuel
Lutheran in Hamburg by the Rev. H.J. Bouman and later confirmed into the
faith on April 13, 1930, at Emanuel Lutheran also by the Rev. Bouman. She
grew up in rural Green Isle and attended Emanuel Lutheran school.
On May 9, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold Edward
Wroge at Emanuel Lutheran in Hamburg by the Rev. Bouman. The couple made
their home in Bergen Township before moving to Glencoe in 1985.
Mrs. Wroge was a member of various card clubs as well as
a church quilter. She enjoyed visiting with friends, going out to eat, gardening
and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Arlyce (Norman) Grack
of Glencoe, Elaine (Harvey) Becker of Glencoe; grandchildren, Kevin (Sharon)
Grack of Glencoe, Diana (Robert) Easterday of New Jersey, Bryan Grack of
Glencoe, Michael (Paulette) Grack of Cokato, Lanny (Dawn) Becker of Eden
Prairie, Larry (Linda) Becker of Rochester, Lee (Carri) Becker of Eden Prairie,
Steve (Michelle) Becker of Chanhassen; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings,
Ottilie Hoernemann of Glencoe, Martin (Irene) Gruenhagen of Hamburg, Marion
(Herman) Templin of New Germany; sister-in-law, Cordelia Wilkens of Norwood
Young America; as well as other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and an
infant daughter.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel
in Glencoe.
